What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns, also called caps, are custom-made coverings placed over teeth. They restore the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance.
Crowns are a versatile solution for various dental problems including severe decay, cracks, and discoloration. They can also support a tooth with a large filling, hold a dental bridge in place, or cover a dental implant.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns offer many benefits for your smile including:
- Improved dental appearance
- Strengthen teeth and improve durability
- Improve oral functioning, including eating and speaking
- Protection for your tooth, preventing further damage
The Crown Placement Process
- Consultation and Exam: Our experienced dentists in Waterloo will check your teeth and decide if a crown is the right solution for you.
- Tooth Preparation: If a crown is needed, we will reshape the affected tooth to make room for it. We will then take an impression of your prepared tooth to create a custom crown that fits perfectly in your mouth.
- Temporary Crown: While your permanent crown is being made, we will place a temporary crown to protect your tooth.
- Crown Fitting: Once your custom crown is ready, we will fit it and make any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and proper alignment.
- Permanent Placement: Finally, we will cement the crown in place, restoring your tooth’s function and appearance.
